Bifocal & Progressive Glasses – The Gift of Vision

In your childhood, you’ve probably seen your grandmother or grandfather constantly swapping two pair of glasses around the neck and wonder why. Well, when you grow up and have got the reason, these two pair of glasses must have changed their appearance, replaced by merely one. All these may be attributed to Benjamin Franklin who is generally credited with the invention of bifocals. Regardless of speculation from some historians that others may precede him in the invention, Benjamin Franklin is definitely the first one to wear bifocal lenses and initiate the development of bifocals.

Bifocal lens is most commonly designed for people with presbyopia who also require a correction of myopia, hypermetropia or astigmatism. It has two separate lens combined together on either side of a pair of glasses, the lower half for close viewing and the upper for far away. You don’t need to bother to constantly swap two different pairs of glasses any more. But accompanied by its convenience, its defects are also quite obvious, among which one is most often complained of – the way they look. As bifocal lenses consist of two separate lenses on either side, it is unavoidable that there is a visible seam between the two halves despite the advanced technology. The beauty of glasses is, more or less, weakened in the eyes of some people. The biggest trouble for wearing bifocals is that it requires a period of adaptation. The fact that there is no transition between the near and the far is known as the direct cause of headache or dizziness until people get used to the new bifocals. Thus, during adaptation you should pay a certain attention.

Or you may as well choose progressive glasses which are similar in principle with bifocals, except that it looks better without a separate line and it has a smooth transition from the bottom to the upper or the reverse.

Anyway, keep an up-to-date prescription for your lenses in hand before ordering any type of glasses. In that case, buying glasses online would be very simple, ensuring safety, comfort and style for people of all budgets.
