The Invention and Development of Glasses
Glasses are now popular among people, most people are familiar with eyeglasses, but few of us know its history and development. When and who invented the great glasses that benefit all vision problem sufferers?
We need to be grateful to the person who invented the glasses for he made human beings see objects more clearly. But till now, there are not obvious and certain ideas about whom on earth invented glasses. While we know that the glasses have deeply rooted in one country’s customs, pride and history.

Generally, we say the most ancient glasses were discovered in the relic in Iraq. This pair of glasses was made of crystal. Then people conclude person lived in ancient Babylon discovered the magnify function of perspective glasses although they may not know clairvoyance. Ancient Egyptian and Jew also did not know the glasses. This kind of glasses was not for people to improve the vision.
At the end of 13th century DC, the glasses appeared in Europe and China almost the same time. They were used like a magnifier. At first, the lenses are tied in front of the chest by ropes. With the passing of time, there come the stem and pince-nez.
People in different countries held different opinions about the glasses. Some people admire the invention of glasses while others think the invention of glasses is a disaster.
People in France do not like the glasses very much. People who are near-sighted do not use their glasses in public. When they have to use them, they fetch out the glasses quickly in case somebody might see.
When the glasses are introduced into England, people laughed about them and refused to accept them. They thought it is defiance to god. While glasses become more popular in the comic book of an Italy artist.
While in Spain, the glasses are more favored by people. People of all social classes loved the glasses. Some people even wrote that in Spain, when a rich person’s wealth increases, his glasses enlarged.

In 1784, American Benjamin invented the bifocal glasses, which make the reputation of glasses rose. Then, the contact lenses, bifocal and progressive glasses, sunglasses and many other kinds of glasses appeared. The style of frames and lenses also varied with the development of history. And glasses have more functions too.
As we see in today’s world, the glasses are developed rapidly and do a great contribution to people who are near-sighted. It is a very useful invention and people now are trying to make the glasses better and more suitable for people.
