Q1: How do I place an order at GlassesShop.com?
A: Please click on the How to order? in the "Good to Know" section of our site.
Q2: What is an eyeglass prescription and where can I get one?
A: An eyeglass prescription is a written order by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, orthoptist or an optician for eyeglasses. It specifies the refractive power to which the eyeglasses are to be made in order to correct blurred vision due to refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Your optometrist is required by law to provide you with your eyeglass prescription after an eye exam. Be sure to ask for a clear and legible copy of your prescription.
Q3: How can you charge such low market price?
A: 100% of our sales are Internet-based and our products are ordered directly from the manufacturer, ensuring authenticity and eliminating unnecessary retail costs that could be passed on to consumers. In addition, the process is completed all in one shop, from lens production to glasses assembly. Because of these processes, valued customers like you can save a lot of money without sacrificing quality, style or service.
Q4: How do I track my order?
A: To track your order online, you can log in to your account, from where you can view the status of all your orders with us. You may also contact our Customer Service Team at any time via email at service@glassesshop.com.
Q5: Can I use my contact lens prescription to order eyeglasses?
A: While your contact lens and eyeglass prescriptions may seem the same, they usually have differences. You must have your eyes examined and ask for an eyeglass prescription (which must be less than 2 years old) before ordering with us.
Q6: Do you have any offline retail stores?
A:Currently we do not operate any offline retail stores. However, we are looking for partners with physical locations (retail stores or eye clinics). If you have these resources and would like to explore the possibility of partnering with us, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Q7: How can I understand the numbers on my eyeglass prescription?
A: On a typical prescription, you will see two rows of numbers. Most of the time, the top portion is for your OD or right eye while the bottom portion is for your OS or left eye.
For distance correction, there should always be a value under "Sphere", and most of the time it will be negative. Its abbreviation is 'D.V.' which stands for Distance Vision.
For reading-only correction, there should always be a value under "Sphere", and most of the time it will be positive. If there is a value under "Near Vision" (N.V., N.V.O.), then enter the power in the BOTTOM half of the form and leave the "Add" power blank or ("0.00").
For astigmatism correction, please note that that "Cylinder" (CYL) and "Axis" are always provided together. For any value of Cylinder there should always be a value for Axis. Some doctors use positive (+) Cylinder and some use negative (-). There is a big difference between the two, so please pay close attention to the positive and negative signs. If you don't have astigmatism correction, doctors might just leave it blank or simply list "SPH" or "DS", which means Sphere or Diopter Sphere. Axis should be from 1-180 degrees. If you see a value like '5' under Axis, this is also the same as '005' or '5 degrees'. It should always be a whole number and there should be no decimal point on the Axis.
For bifocals and progressive lenses, please check with your eye doctor whether the Addition is for bifocals or progressive lenses. Most of the time, compared to the bifocal Addition, the Addition of the progressive is higher by 0.25, so please verify. A "PAL" note written on the prescription is an indication that your prescription is for progressive; only one ADD means the addition for the left and right eyes are the same. Please be advised that we process a minimum of +1.00 and maximum of +3.00 for Addition powers.
Eye Doctors will sometimes leave out the decimal point on the Sphere, Cylinder and Addition. For example, -25 or +175… this is understood as -0.25 and +1.75.
It is very important to pay close attention to plus and minus signs as this will greatly affect the lens. If there is anything on the prescription you are not familiar with, please call our Customer Service Team and we will be happy to assist you.
Q8: What is my Pupillary distance (PD), and how do I obtain it?
A:Pupillary Distance or PD is the distance from the center of one pupil to the other. (A pupil is the black spot in the eye.) This measurement refines the positioning of your lenses within the frame you have chosen.
Your optician or doctor can quickly provide your PD, and so we recommend that you ask for it when you have your vision checked. Alternatively you may ask someone to measure it for you, but advise them to be at about an arm's length away from you. You can also measure by yourself by facing a mirror. For single vision lenses, you may choose to use an average PD of 63mm, but for bifocal or progressive lenses, we strongly recommend getting this information from your optician.
For your information, most adults have a PD between 55 - 65 mm. Sometimes doctors will provide two different values for PD, below are some scenarios:
a. The values are higher like 65/60: the first PD is usually for Distance PD and the second is for Reading PD
b. The values are lower like 33.5/31.5: the first PD is usually for the Right Eye and the second is for the Left Eye
c. The values are the same like 30.5/30.5: you can add these two values together as we only have one field for PD (we will just divide it on our end)
Q9: What frames are available in your shop?
A: You will find a wide variety of frames on our website, including plastic, metal, titanium, and memory or flexible frames that can retain their shape after bending. To make shopping easier and to better meet your unique needs, we also categorize our frames into five major groups: sports, classic, fashion, retro and clip-on. Please be advised that all of our frames are hypoallergenic to prevent allergic reactions associated with wearing eyewear products. Click here to see a complete list of frames.
Q10: Do you have physical stores where I can fit my frames?
A: No, we currently do not have any physical store locations. We developed GlassesShop.com as an E-business so we could offer our customers the lowest eyeglass prices in the world. For fitting, please pay attention to the interior sidebar of each frame to see the dimensions that suit you best. You can compare this with the dimensions on the product info pages, or contact our Customer Service Team directly to recommend more frames that may fit you perfectly.
Please note that glass dimensions are measured in millimeters (mm) as in the example shown below:
Lens width - Nose Bridge - Sidebars x Lens height
50 - 14 - 135 x 24
Q11: Do you have lenses that automatically darken in sunlight and then return to a relatively clear state indoors?
A: Yes, we do. These lenses are called Photochromic (or Transition) Lenses.
Photochromic lenses are very convenient. They are light enough to wear indoors and they will automatically darken to a sunglass shade when exposed to ultraviolet light outdoors. Please be advised that these lenses usually do not darken as well as typical sunglasses and it is recommended these lenses should integrate with magnetic clip-on sunglasses when inside the car.
Q12: Can I have lenses that are tinted and photochromic?
A: No. Even though they are both colored lenses, there is an obvious difference between them. Photochromics are changeable depending on the amount of ultraviolet light they are exposed to, while a tint remains constant at all times. Fashion tints can be had in almost any color, typically light pink, brown, gray, yellow, green, blue, red and so on.
Q13: Are there any restrictions on selecting bifocal or progressive lenses?
A: Yes. Not all frames can be assembled with bifocal or progressive lenses. The lens height of the frame should be at least 30mm so that it is big enough to include all viewing zones. We have made it easier for you to identify which frames can or cannot be fitted with bifocal or progressive lenses by putting a check mark beside each frame on the item pages. You simply check or uncheck the box to select these options. If you seek some professional advice for your lens choice, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service Team.
Q14: How do I get a frame that fits me best?
A: It's not always easy to get the perfect fit online, but the tips below will help ensure you get the best fit.
1. Check the measurements of an old pair of glasses that fit you well. We show the dimensions of every frame on its detail page, so you can compare the dimensions to get a close match.

2. Tell us your size and we can give you our recommendations and suggestions.
3. Use our "Virtual Try-On" feature available on every product page to see how these glasses will look on you.
Note: If you need any professional help, our trained professional opticians are available online to assist you and to make sure you will get the right pair of eyeglasses for your specific needs.
Q15: Can you provide me with more details for your lenses and coatings?
A: Please click on "Help Center" in the toolbar and look for "Lenses and Coatings" on the left column.
Q16: How do you divide the distance and reading portion on bifocal or progressive lenses?
A: Normally, the division is as follows. 60% of the lens height is for distance and 40% of the lens height for reading. But of course, you are very much welcome to inform us of your personal preference in lens division. Please include a note on the order form or call us as soon as you place your order, and we will make sure to note these specifications on your order.
Q17: What type of bifocal lens do you use?
A:We use Flattop 28 for all our bifocal lenses.
Q18: Do you offer prism and trifocal correction?
A: No, we do not currently offer prism and trifocal correction, but we do offer single vision (distance or reading), bifocal and progressive correction at GlassesShop.com. We are always happy to assist you in any of your optical needs.
Q19: Can I just get lenses from you?
A: No, we do not sell lenses separately. You can purchase frames separately, or get lenses with frames as a whole package from us.
